In 2015, I decided to give up music.

I was unhappy with my life, and I decided the answer was to fully commit to an on-and-off relationship I had been in for the previous five years or so. I quit the two bands I was in and moved to California. To make a long story short, it didnt work out.

The relationship didn't last, but my decision to quit music did. I still played guitar for fun, but I didn't try to write a song again for five years.

Like most people, I had a lot of time for reflection after the pandemic started. I began making music again. And I liked the results. I kept going.

Now, I am close to completing my first full-length album. I am two-thirds of the way there. It isnt for everyone l, but I think it's coming along. I hope to be finished for the next Bandcamp Friday in August.

While preparing for the album, I came across a cache of old recordings from the Before Time. Some of these files hadn't been opened in over ten years.

These are the abandoned songs. The stuff I walked away from and avoided up until now. Today I gave them a listen. My first thoughts?

"Holy shit, is that me playing?"

Y'all, I used to play guitar in a way I don't understand anymore. It's like a different person.

Idk if anyone will ever listen to this stuff, but it's nice to have it all in one place at least.

Photographed is the bass I've used since... 2008? 2007? The lone instrument that has appeared in all eras of my music recording journey.
